Kano Commences Waste To Wealth Initiative

Kano State Government has concluded arrangements to inaugurate its Integrated Waste Recycling project, to enhance sanitation and protect the environment.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Getso, stated this while inspecting waste evacuation equipment in Kano.

He explained that the project was expected to be inaugurated by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, this month.

The Commissioner noted that the state had entered into partnership with a company to generate waste for recycling under the “Waste to Wealth” initiative.

He stressed that the project was designed to generate waste and convert into biogas, organic and inorganic fertilisers which would create about 4,000 jobs in the three main operational centres at the Dorayi composing, Kawo bio-gas and Zaura recycling plants.

Dr. Getso who expressed satisfaction with quality of equipment deployed by the company, said, government would integrate equipment and personnel of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) into the project.

According to him, the ministry will soon commence desilt, drain and waste clearance exercise to control flooding in the state.

Also commenting, the Group Operating Officer of the company, Mr Bello Yakasai said the company had deployed 30 trucks, 32 compactors, 36 mini trucks, experts and other equipment to the state.

He said, the company established 2 central sewage for collection of industrial waste as well as treatment of solid and liquid waste and also adopted proactive measures to ensure successful implementation of the project in the state.
