The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities has commended Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong for his passion for people living with disabilities in Plateau State and the nation at large.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr. James Lalu made the commendation when the management of the Commission visited Government House, Jos.

The Commission said it was highly appreciative of the role played by the Governor towards the establishment of the Commission while serving as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Lalu said the Governor has also matched words with action in recruiting people living with disabilities to manage the Commission in the State unlike the situation in some states where these category of persons are marginalised.

The Executive Secretary said Governor Lalong has also appointed persons living with disabilities into his cabinet as well as affording others the platform to be carried along in all empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes.

Responding, Governor Lalong expressed gratitude to the Commission for recognising his modest contributions towards addressing the challenges of people living with disabilities.

He said his passion for people living with disabilities was motivated by his believe that anyone could be in the situation they find themselves while most physically challenged people are endowed with special gifts and talents. The Governor urged his Counterparts in other states yet to establish the Commission to consider the idea to help mitigate the plights of people with disabilities. A cake was presented by the Commission to the Governor to mark his 58th birthday.
