From Usman Sani

Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) has advised youths to shun social vices that could land them in prison.

Kaduna State Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Maimuna Ali-Keffi made the call when she led other members of the Association to the medium security custodial centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kaduna.

Mrs Maimuna Ali-Keffi explained that as backbone of any society, the youths should engage in meaningful ventures that would be of benefit to their immediate families and country at large.

She maintained that she has been passionate about the welfare of inmates and the downtrodden in the society and being the NAOWA chairperson has provided the right platform to reach out to them.

Mrs Maimuna Ali-Keffi enjoined the inmates not to give up in life citing the likes of Olusegun Obasanjo, Nelson Mandela, Jomo Kenyatta among others who served jail terms and later became successful.

The NAOWA Chairperson further donated items to inmates of the facility which include toothpaste, tooth brush, toiletries, boxers for men, slippers, inner wears and sanitary pads for female inmates.

In a remark, Deputy Comptroller of the facility, Salihu Abdullahi who appreciated the visit urged non-governmental organisations to support government in meeting the needs of correctional centres.
