INEC Converts Voting Points To Polling Units

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it’s expanding and converting voting points and voting points settlements into polling units in the country.

North West Zonal National Commissioner of the INEC, Barrister Festus Okoye disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting aim at informing participants the importance of the expansion exercise held in Sokoto state.

Barrister Festus Okoye said at the end of the exercise, Sokoto state would have a total of three thousand, nine hundred and ninety one polling units as against the three thousand and thirty three polling units.

He explained that the reason for the expansion exercise was to decongest polling units stressing that most of the polling units were over crowded during elections.

According to him, polling units will be relocated to identified Communities or areas in line with the guidelines on relocation of polling units in the country.

The Commissioner noted that any polling unit located at religious worships areas or palace would be relocated to public primary and secondary schools or recreation areas.

Barrister Festus Okoye added that the voting points to be converted into polling units would also be relocated to other areas.
