FG Inaugurates N140bn Solar Home System In Jigawa

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has on friday flagged off Solar Home System Programme to provide 5 million new solar connection in the country.

Professor Osinbajo said during the launching of the deployment of 100,000 solar Home System at Jangefe village, in Roni LGA of Jigawa State, that government had embarked on the Programme to reduce dependence on national grid and create job opportunities for Nigerians.

According to him, federal government came up with Solar Power Naija initiative as part of Economic Sustainability Plan aim at rolling out 5 million new solar connection in off-grid communities across the country.

Professor Yemi explained that the programme would expand energy access to 25 million individuals in five million new connections to Solar Home System.

”the programme is a private sector-led electricity access acceleration scheme to be facilitated by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), he added

The Vice President noted that “the project will gulp the sum of N140 billion and it will be subsided for 200 million dollars.”

In a remark, Governor Abubakar Badaru commended Federal Government’s support to the State and other States despite declining resources, had been unprecedented since 2015.
