UNICEF Rates Jigawa Second In Access To Portable Water

United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has rated Jigawa state as second to Lagos in supply and access to portable water to the people in the country.

The state commissioner for water resources Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa disclosed this to Radio Nigeria in Dutse, the state capital.

He explained that the state had achieved 92 percent while Lagos state got 96 percent in access to portable water.

According to him, Jigawa is leading other state in the Open Defecation Free Programme ODF.

Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa pointed out that a total of 14 local governments were Open Defecation Free in addition to other new selected local governments presently undergoing the programme.

On water Revenue generation derive, the commissioner said, Jigawa was the least state in Nigeria in the monthly payment of water bills of 50 naira per month.

The commissioner who noted that water supply being a vital social service, said Governor Badaru Abubakar led administration had spent substantial amount in the water sector to make it accessible to its teaming populace.
