Reps Summons Army Chief, CBN Governor Over Arms Purchase

House of Representatives ad hoc Committee on Arms and Ammunition has summoned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim and Central Bank Governor Mr Godwin Emeifele over arms purchase.

The summon followed unanimous adoption of a motion by a member from Imo State Mr Bede Eke during the house sitting in Abuja.

It also summoned the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emiefele to appear and account for the monies released for purchase of military hardwares on the same date.

The committee which was constituted by the Speaker Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, to investigate the purchase of arms and ammunition by the military and paramilitary planned to take hard decision against any public officer found wanting.

Addressing National Assembly Correspondents, the committee Chairman, Mr Olaide Akinremi said the committee also expected the Ministries of Finance, Defence, Interior, and the Bureau of Public Procurement to appear before it.

According to him, the commitee has invited the Chief of Army Staff 4 times and the CBN Governor 5 times, they have refused to honour the invitation stressing that the invitations extended to them was in line with section 88 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Contributing against the public officers, a member of the committee from Sokoto Alh. Ibrahim Aliyu, said the committee had information and documents and was only giving the officers opportunity for a fair hearing.
