Customs Seizes Contraband Of Over 148 Million Naira

The Kano and Jigawa command of the Nigeria custom service says it has seizes contraband items of Duty paid value of one hundred and fourty eight million ,one hundred and twelve thousand ,six Hundred and Twenty One Naira (148,112,621.00) from January to date.

The comptroller of the Command Suleiman Pai Umar stated this while briefing journalist in Kano.

He said in an efforts to curtail smuggling activities the command had made several seizures through intelligence gathering from the CIU and customs police .

Suleiman Pai Umar maintained that among the contraband items seized include, one thousand three hundred bags of foreign Rice 50kg each, 180 jerry Cans of vegetable oil, 50 Cartons of foreign Coucous ,27 Carton of foreign Spaghetti,15 Cartons of Condensed Milk,and 22 Bales of second Hand clothes.

Other items seized were two Exotic cars (Mercedes Benz C43 AMG 4MATIC 2017 Model and Mercedes Benz GLE 53AMG TURBO 2021 Model) both with Duty paid value of over 83 Million Naira.

He expressed dismay over how smugglers were introducing new techniques of concealing contraband items into the country,saying Nigerian customs would not relent in fishing out the perpetrators of such illegal act

“We shall countinue to Sharpen our intelligence and enforcement capabilities to fight smuggling and enforce compliance with extant laws and procedures to ensure success in the battle against economic saboteurs “

The Comptroller explained that the command had in the last two months generated the sum of over five Billion Naira.

Suleiman Pai Umar reassured the commitment of the Command In addressing smuggling activities as well as generating more revenue aimed at enhancing revenue generation drive of the country.
