Wheat Farmers Receive Training On Seeds Varieties In Jigawa

Flour Milling Association of Nigeria has commended farmers for prompt

production of wheat in Jigawa state. 

The head of the association Mrs Sarah Huber stated this during the association’s annual meeting at Maje village in Taura local government area. 

She decried low production of wheat while urging the Jigawa State farmers to redouble efforts on wheat production to attain food security across the country. 

According to her, as part of the association’s effort to boost local wheat production, 15 local government from jigawa, kano and kebbi were selected.

Sarah Huber pointed out that those Local government areas selected in the state include Taura, Birnin Kudu, Ringim, Malam-Madori and Kafin Hausa.

The head also said 5,000 farmers had received training while 700 participated in intensive outgrower program with input loans to increase yields.

Sarah Huber explained that research farm was established in Ringim local government with the support of Lake Chad Research Institute on new seeds varieties from Mexico and Sudan as well as improved agronomic practices.

She therefore, assured more partnership with organizations across the value chain to improve farmer’s yields through high quality seeds, expanded extension services and more access to irrigation techniqu
