A mass rollout of the six hundred thousand Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine doses received by Ghana last week has commenced.

The vaccination drive is taking place in over forty districts, with much concentration in southern Ghana where a high number of Covid-19 cases have been recorded.

Authorities say pregnant women and children won’t be vaccinated as they don’t yet have enough data on possible side effects for these groups.

Front line health workers , individuals with underlying health conditions and those aged over sixty years old are being given priority while about twenty million people are expected to receive the jab across the country before the year ends.

Ghana which received the vaccine through the Covax scheme have also approved the use of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine.
