Plateau State Governor Takes Steps To Mitigate Conflicts

Governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong says steps have been taking to mitigate the risk of violent conflicts and the growing wave of criminality in the state.

The Governor stated this at the inauguration of Inter-Religious council (IRC) at the new government House, little Rayfield Jos.

Lalong said it is high time people stop shielding criminals who hide under the guise of religion and perpetrate evil instead, religion should bring unity and not division.

He stated that criminals should be fished out so as not to allow religious crisis in Plateau State.

The 36 interfaith dialogue committee members cutting across Christians and Muslims Cleric is to be chaired by the former COCIN President, Prof. Pandang Yaksat and assisted by the Emir of Wase and chairman Jama’atu Nasiru Islam, JNI Plateau State, Haruna Sambo.

Lalong said he is confident and knows they have solutions to all the crisis and are been choosing to serve in the committee based on their track records of integrity.

He mandated the committee to work closely with the Plateau Peace Building Agency,(PPBA) to come out with a workable document that would foster peace and development in the State.

Accepting the responsibility, the former COCIN President and chairman of the Interfaith dialogue committee, Pandang Yaksat affirmed that by the grace and power of God they will carry out their responsibilites to the satisfaction of citizens.

He applauded Governor Lalong for conceiving the idea of constituting the committee and asking that security agents should bring perpetrators of violence to book in order for people to enjoy dividends of democracy they are desiring for.

It can be recalled that, about 20 years now Plateau State has witnessed outbreak of violence of different types.
