The Federal Executive Council has approved the Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021, which seeks to give legal backing to enhance the teaching profession in the country.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made this known to newsmen after the federal executive council meeting held at the state House, Abuja
The federal executive council approved the bill to be sent to the National Assembly for consideration
If approved by the lawmakers, the retirement age of teachers would move from 60 years to 65 while the years of service would also move from 35 to 40.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said some highlights of the bill included the introduction of bursary award, special rural posting allowances and other measures to attract the best brains to the profession.
Also Speaking, Minister of industry trade and investment, Niyi Adebayo noted that the council further approved the sum of N 1.484 billion contract for the upgrade of electricity component in the calaber free trade zone area
Miinister of Agriculture and Riral Development, Sabo nanono also explained that the council approved a memo for treaty plant genetic resource for food and agriculture
According to him the impute of the treaty was for the advancement and enhancement of agricultural resource base with member countries
Sabo nanono added that the entire treaty was mainly to boost agricultural production in the country
