Soldiers wounded in the theater of operation have expressed readiness to join their colleagues in the battlefield towards prosecuting the war on terror.
The soldiers who were currently recuperating at the 7 Division Hospital Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri made this known when senate committee on Army visited the medical facility.
The fact finding visit by the Senate Committee on Army was informed by a media report alleging that the Nigerian Army has abandoned troops wounded in the frontline.
However, the soldiers at the 7 Division Medical facility said they were receiving the best of medical attention.
Some of the wounded soldiers Corporal Kolawole Omaseye, private Saidu Tahiru and private Ademola Felix said they sustained injuries following different encounters with Boko Haram insurgents.
They stressed that despite the setback, it will not deter them from performing their duties of protecting the territorial integrity and the citizens.
“We are feeling better and believe that in the next one or two weeks, we wilI go back to our location. Our morale is high”.
Similarly, Acting Commander 7 Division Hospital and Medical Services, Colonel Ogbe Omoruyi explained that the common injuries being treated in the facility include blast injuries and gunshot wounds, while severe cases were transferred to 44 Medical Centre Kaduna.
According to him, the hospital is also partnering with other tertiary hospitals to ensure full recovery of wounded personnel.
Speaking, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ndume lauded the resilience and sacrifice of the soldiers.
He urged them not to be discouraged in the fight against insurgency as the Nigeria Senate would continue to accord priority to their welfare.
Senator Ali Ndume commended Nigerian Army for improving services of the hospital and expanding its capacity to a hundred bed facility.
Radio Nigeria reports that the troops are being treated for medical, gun shots and IED related injuries.
