Vigilante Intercepts Truck Load Of Guns, Ammunition In Kebbi State

Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Kebbi state has intercepted a truck loaded with bags of rice, concealing 73 guns and 443 ammunitions in Zamare Community in Yauri Local Government Area.

The Commander, Alhaji Zakari Zamare, told newsmen in Yauri on Monday that the vehicle was transported by a ferryboat from the River Niger in Zamare to up land.

“We were on our daily routine duty, and we saw a vehicle laden with bags of locally produced rice and we suspected the content in them which resulted in the vigorous investigation of the bags,” he said.

He said Vigilante members discovered iron-like objects in the rice, which prompted further investigation.

In the first bag, we discovered 14 local guns..as people in the area trooped in and we did not want locals to take the law into their hands, hence we took the driver and his assistant to the police station, he said.

Alhaji Zakari explained that the owner of the rice was able to blend in with the crowd and thus evaded arrest

Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit Kaduna, ASC, Magaji Mailafiya, assured that the unit would brief newsmen as soon the intercepted items arrived the unit.
