Kaduna State government, traditional leaders and Members of the National Assembly from the state have held a security engagement meeting with a view to bringing an end to myriad of security challenges facing the state.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting which was held at the Government House in Kaduna, the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Malam Uba Sani said the meeting dwelt extensively on armed banditry, kidnapping, drug abuse and conflicts within communities in the state.
Senator Uba Sani pointed out that the meeting was convened to receive inputs from all stakeholders on security matters to restore security and lasting peace in the state.
He explained that stakeholders were briefed by the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Mr Samuel Aruwan on an overview of the security situation in the state.
He noted that the national assembly members and the traditional leaders at the meeting were satisfied with ongoing effors by the state government in collaboration with various security agencies to bring the situation under control.
The lawmaker stressed that issues of security require collective effort, and pledged that the national assembly will work closely with kaduna state government and Traditinal Rulers to end the menace.
He commeded the Initiave of Kaduna State government for inviting members of the National Assembly from the State, Traditional Rulers and Local Government Chairmen as well as state assembly members to come together and brain-storm on the important issue of security.
Addressing the participants, Kaduna State Deputy governor Dr Hadiza Balarabe, said the meeting with relavant stakeholders was aimed at putting heads together to end the rising spate of Kidnapping, Drug abuse and armed banditry.
She said the state government has committed much efforts and resources to address security challenges, stressing that more needs to be done, particularly by the federal government.
The deputy Governor noted that no progress can be achieved in the area of human capital development, infrastructure and overall economic growth if there was no peace.
In his presentation on a proposed reporting template for traditional institutions and the training of Community policing personnel, the Commissioner for local governments, Alhaji Jafaru Sani said Kaduna state had directed local government Chairmen to submit list of fifty youths preferably those from the Vigilante Corps to engage them in community policing.
Earlier, The District head of Rigasa, Alhaji Aminu Idris reaffirmed the commitment by traditional title holders toward achieving lasting peace and development in the state.
