Federal Road Safety Commission-FRSC has deployed over five hundred regular and special marshals to ensure zero accident during the ember months period in Borno state.

Borno State Sector Commander, Sanusi Ibrahim stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Maiduguri.

Mr Ibrahim identified over speeding and tire burst as major causes of road accident in the State.

According to him, twenty three people have lost their lives in eleven road crashes involving fifteen vehicles along Maiduguri-Beneshiekh road from January to twenty third November, this year.

“Most of the major challenges we have in Borno include insurgency, bad roads particularly from Beneshiekh to Maiduguri and the third is some commercial drivers carry passengers outside the designated motor parks. We are calling on motorists using the highway to make sure their vehicles are in good condition and obey traffic rules”.

The FRSC Commander said the command had also embarked on aggressive enlightenment in motor parks and worship places on the need to embrace safe practices on the highway during the period.

He added that the Sector is also collaborating with other security agencies to ensure hitch free operations.

State Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers-NURTW, Alhaji Ahmodu Musa said the union had embarked on aggressive sensitization of it’s members on the dangers of violating traffic rules.

Some motorists in Maiduguri called for more enlightenment of road users particularly those on highway.

They also called on the federal government to repair the dilapidated roads especially Maiduguri-Jakana and Maiduguri-Bama roads.
