Borno State Solicits For Critical Infrastructures In Liberated Areas

Borno state has appealed to the United Kingdom UK to scale up it’s support towards rebuilding critical infrastructures and resettlement of displacement persons in the liberated areas.

Governor Babagaana Zulum made the request when the UK Special Envoy for Famine Prevention and Humanitarian Affairs paid him a courtesy visit in Maiduguri.

Professor Babagaana Zulum observes that continued dependence of Internally Displaced Person IDPs on aid from donor agencies is not sustainable.

He therefore solicited support of UK Government in providing livelihood to millions of returnees to help them start up a living.

Governor Zulum decried the condition of internally displaced persons in camps which continues to breed social vices like prostitution and drug abuse.

Speaking, the envoy Mr Nicholas Dyer said his visit to Maiduguri was to asess the condition of IDPs in camps and also discuss other areas of intervention with the state government.

He promised additional support of the UK government to address humanitarian and development needs of victims of insurgency.

Mr Nicolas Dyer was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria Catriona Laing.
