Army: Senate Advocates More Funding

The Senate committee on Army has complained over the inadequate provisions in it’s appropriation act.

The chairman of the committee senator Ali Ndume stated this during the 2021 budget defence of the Army.

Senator Ndume believed that this Agency is one of the most important Agency especially with the current security challenges in the North EAST, Boko Haram, Armed robbery and kidnapping in the North West, farmers clash in the North Central.

He said the committee had visited some of the Army formations and seen a pathetic situation, therefore the Army need more funds for their equipments and other necessary things needed to ensure security of lives and properties.

Senator Ndume further explained that with an estimate of thirteen trillion naira and in a situation of war you can not budgeted less than thirty billion for the Army, for that the sector need more funds to be able to execute their mandate very well.

Senator Ndume however assured that the committee will look at the budgetory provision of the Army and do what is required to help the Nation not the Army going by the challenging situation.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai was represented by chief of policy and planning, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun at the budget defence exercise.

Afterwards, the committee went into a close door session.
