UBEC:Kwara State Receives over N7billion After 7years

Kwara State Government says it has received the sum of N7,151 billion naira grants from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the first time since 2013 when the State was blacklisted from the national scheme.

The State Commisssioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajiya Fatimah Ahmed made the disclosure in a statement in Ilorin.

According to her, the N7.1bn is accumulations of UBEC grants that were not accessed between 2014 and 2019 over non payment of counterpart funds by previous administration.

She explained that the UBEC grants are meant for rehabilitation of dilapidated basic schools, construction of new ones, equiping of the schools with ICT tools,and training of teachers, as well as projects evaluation, among others.

Hajiya Ahmed said the money would be spent in phases over the next two years to fix up to 600 elementary schools out of the over 1,400 decrepit basic education facilities across the State.

She noted that the projects will be monitored by UBEC to ensure compliance with the work plan submitted by the State Government.
