Reps Suspend Concession of 4 Airports

House of Representatives, Committee on Aviation has suspended the proposed concessioning of four airports in parts of the country by the Ministry of Aviation.

Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Mr. Nnolim Nnaji announced the resolution following inability of the Minister of Aviation to appear before a special panel under his committee for the fourth time.

The Committee Chairman said the Minister was invited to discuss issues raised by labour unions in the aviation sector but to their surprise non of the agency’s official was present during panel’s meeting.

According to him, issues raised by the unions include, Concession of four airports, lack of transparency in the exercise, labour issues, the Chinese loans, legal matters attached to the concessions and the lack of proper valuation of the present status of the affected airports, among others.

He further confirmed that the committee had also received several letters from stakeholders both in favour and against the Airports’ Concession stressing that urgent steps must be taken to address the matter.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Hassan Musa, who attended the meeting late, pleaded for more time, to allow the minister appear before the Committee.
