Regular hand wash reduces risk of Pneumonia and Covid -19 infection.

Observing regular hands wash among parents and children reduced the risk of Pneumonia and Covid -19 infection.

The Head of Community Behavior Change, Save the children office Jigawa state Mr. Ibrahim Haruna stated this while addressing some communities during a field visit to Kiyawa local government area of the state.

He explained that Save the Children encourages people to always wash their hands with hands with soap and running water to prevent the spread of corona virus in their communities.

Ibrahim Haruna noted that regular hand washing also reduces the risk of Pneumonia infection among children below the age of five.

Also speaking, the official in charge of Primary Healthcare at the Local Government, Mallam Musa Nababa Kiyawa said, Save the children intervention has helped in the improvement of immunization coverage in the local government area from 67% to 82%.

According to him, save the children give series of training to the health workers in the area which they subsequently cascade to hundreds of community volunteers.

He said they also engage hundreds of community volunteers in campaign against Covid-19, Pneumonia Infection, routine immunization, antenatal, Facility delivery and exclusive breast feeding.

Nababa pointed out that save the children had also given them Personal Protective Equipment against Covid-19 worth over seven million naira.

He noted that the intervention also provided them with over one thousand five hundred Tippy -Tap which was distributed to the public palaces.

Mrs. Shafa’atu Yawale and some community volunteers who spoke to Radio Nigeria commended Save the children for its intervention which has improved their awareness about Covid-19 and Pneumonia Infection, as well as Prevention and Control of infectious diseases.
