2021 Budget Passes Second Reading At The House Of Reps

The 2020 proposed budget estimate laid down by President Muhammadu Buhari before a joint session of the National Assembly has passed second at the house of Representatives.

The passage of the draft bill followed a two day debate by members on the floor of the house.

Leading the debate, the house leader Alh Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said the budget has tried to cushion the harsh economic blow the COVID 19 pandemic has caused on the nation.

The budget proposal, according to him takes special emphasis on the upgrade of critical sectors of the economy to allow million Nigerians benefit from the current democratic dipensation.

In hiscontribution, Chief whip of the house, Alh Tahir Monguno, urged the house to focus more on Agriculture as well as increase funds allocated to the North East Development Commission due to the deplorable state of infrastructure in the region.

Also in his submission a member from Enugu state, Mr Obinna Chidoka, observed that ministry of environment needs more than what was allocated to it due to the menace of erosion and flooding affected many parts of the country.

For a member from Kano state, Alh Muhammad Wudil, there’s need to give priority to job creation inview of the high number of unemployed youths in the country ranging to 20 million.

Other members who contributed during the debate stressed the need for a reduction in the cost of governance, address infrastructure decay as well as diversification of the economy to become technologically drived.
