Governor Elrufai to reform Chieftaincy and Traditional Council

Kaduna State government says it will approach the State House of Assembly with more bills to further strengthen governance in the state including bills that will reform the composition and Classification of the state Chieftaincy and Traditinal Council.

The State Governor, Malam Nasiru Elrufai announced this while presenting the 2021 draft budget on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

Governor Elrufai explained that, one of the bills was the chieftaincy and Traditional Council bill.

“Chieftaincy and Traditional councils bill to entrench the reforms of the Chieftaincy system, specify composition and classification of Emirates and Traditional councils and update the provisions of the colonial laws and Chieftaincy matters that we inherited”

“We may be approaching the honourable House for further tax waivers to assist our businesses and households to be more liquid and better equipped to survive the negative infact of this pandemic”

“We shall be approaching the House for more Bills to further strengthening governance in the state”

According to him, other proposed bills include the State Social Protection Bill to domesticate the various intervention programs of the federal government that will help in addressing the basic needs of poor and vulnerable people.

He also said, the state government hope to bring an Employment Promotion Bill that will established a state council of Economic advisers to guide the government to further promote job creation, economic development and investment promotion.

Malam Nasiru Elrufai further stated that, “we want to bring to the House the State Education bill to re-enact the State outdated Education law including the updating of the state Universal Basic Education law to refill 2005 law, and to reflect lessons learned in the implementation on the domestication of UBE act.

Malam Elrufai also commeded the members of Kaduna State House of Assembly for the volume and the quality of the bills that had been enacted.
