Crisis: TASG Constitutes Commission Of Inquiry

 Governor, Darius Ishaku, has constituted a Commission of Inquiry into the crisis between the Tiv and their neighboring communities in Taraba state.

Inaugurating members of the Commission of Inquiry in Jalingo, the State Capital, Governor Ishaku  requested members to examine the remote and immediate causes of crisis between the Tivs and people living in communities of Wukari, Takum, Donga, Ibi, Ussa, Gassol, and Bali Local Government Areas, among others from 1991 to date.

 He directed them to identify individuals or groups that might have instigated the crises and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary.

The Governor also asked the commission to examine and identify cases of banditry, kidnapping, and other vices related to or arising from within border communities and their relationship with the crisis if any.

According to the terms of reference, the Governor equally said they should examine the role played by State, Local Governments and other institutions Including extant instruments or policy to abate or facilitate the crises and recommend appropriate measures to be taken to forestall future occurrences.

 He gave the commission three months to submit its report and asked them to assess the efficacy of the existing security arrangements in communities within the state and advise on improvement.

Meanwhile, the Governor has named Justice Kumai Bayang (rtd) as chairman of the commission and Hamidu Audu as the secretary.

Other  members of the Commission inculede, Justice Emmanuel Garba, Justice Ambrose Mammadi (rtd), Danjuma Rindam, Professor Rotgak Gofwen, and Professor Istifanus Zabadi.
