Agency wants Education for Women

Director, Kaduna State Agency for Mass Literacy Mrs. Justina Iya Yahaya says education is the only key that women need to explore their full potential for growth and development.

Mrs. Justina Yahaya stated this at an event to mark the 2020 International Women’s Day organized by a Non-Governmental Organization-NGO, El Vow Foundation in Kaduna.

Represented by Senior Education Officer of the Agency, Mr. Danbaki Ibrahim, the Director explained that education would help to curb violations such as sexual harassment, forceful eviction and discrimination among other challenges faced by women in the society.

She said the agency would continue to provide free education to women so as to empower them for socio-economic and political development.

In a keynote address, Executive Director of the NGO Mrs. Theresa M.Biniyat who said the day was convened as part of effort to reaffirm commitment that women’s rights were also human rights, called on government and corporate organizations to uphold gender equality and women’s empowerment for sustainable development.

Speaking also, communications Officer- Sexual Assault Referral Centre, SARC- Gwamna Awan Hospital kakuri, Kaduna Mrs. Plangnan Deborah emphasized that women should take up leadership positions, acquire Western Education and Vocational skills for them to become self-reliant.

Mrs. Deborah who called on mothers to establish cordial relationship with their children especially the girl child said it would make them to speak out whenever they encounter challenges of violations.

Women who attended the sensitization programme called on government to come to their aid through provision of portable drinking water, education facilities, vocational skills centers as well as ensure security of lives and properties.
