As preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged eligible voters to take advantage of the extended Continuous Voter Registration CVR exercise and the newly introduced self-service registration platform.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kaduna State, Professor Sai’idu Ahmed Babura, made the appeal during an interview with Radio Nigeria.

Professor Babura said the extension of the registration exercise became necessary following the growing number of eligible voters, particularly young people, seeking to register.

He explained that the Commission has streamlined both the Continuous Voter Registration and self-service registration processes, enabling first-time voters to complete their registration with minimal need to visit an INEC office physically.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner added that additional personnel have been deployed to registration centres across Kaduna State to ensure a smooth exercise.

He urged residents to complete all registration requirements to enable them participate fully in the 2027 General Election.

Professor Sai’idu Ahmed Babura also advised those who have successfully completed their registration to visit INEC offices to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Professor Babura further appealed to all stakeholders, particularly civil society organisations and the media, to play their part by mobilising more eligible citizens to participate in Nigeria’s electoral process.

He, however, assured that the Commission has put mechanisms in place to ensure that hard-to-reach and security-prone areas are not left out of the registration exercise.

Professor Babura also enjoined all stakeholders to continue supporting the activities of INEC to ensure a free, fair and credible 2027 general election.
