Governor Kabir Yusuf has flagged off the distribution of 90,000 bags of subsidised fertiliser to farmers across Kano State, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The fertiliser, conveyed in 150 trucks, will be distributed across the state’s 44 local government areas and 484 political wards ahead of the peak of the 2026 wet farming season.
Speaking during the official launch of the distribution exercise, Governor Yusuf said agriculture remains one of the key pillars of his administration’s development agenda.
He noted that over the past three years, the government has implemented several programmes to revitalise the agricultural sector, ranging from the provision of quality farm inputs to improved crop production techniques, pest control measures and other interventions designed to boost farmers’ productivity.
According to the governor, the consistent supply of subsidised agricultural inputs has contributed to increased crop yields, reduced food prices, created employment opportunities in rural communities and strengthened food security across Kano State

Governor Yusuf disclosed that the 150 trucks contain a total of 90,000 bags of fertiliser, which will be equitably shared among the 44 local government areas before being distributed to all 484 wards in the state.
He explained that each local government is expected to receive an average of three truckloads, while each ward has been allocated fertiliser for 70 beneficiaries to ensure wider access for genuine farmers.
He revealed that although each bag of fertiliser currently sells for about ₦50,000 in the open market, the Kano State Government, in partnership with the 44 local government councils, has subsidised the product by 50 per cent, enabling farmers to purchase each bag at ₦25,000.
The governor described the arrangement as a joint intervention between the state and local governments aimed at easing the financial burden on farmers during the planting season.
To ensure transparency, accountability and fairness in the distribution process, the governor constituted a fertiliser distribution committee headed by the Commissioner for Agriculture.
Governor Yusuf also said similar committees had been established in all the 44 local government areas.
The governor also commended security agencies operating in the state for their commitment to maintaining peace and supporting government programmes.
