The Kebbi State Government has commenced the distribution of 110 trucks of fertiliser and 100 metric tonnes of improved, climate-resilient seeds to about 120,000 farmers across the state free of charge.
Governor Nasir Idris who flagged off the Statewide distribution exercise in Birnin Kebbi, said the gesture was part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security and enhance climate resilience during the 2026 wet season farming
He described the intervention as a strategic investment in agriculture under the Climate Change Adaptation Seed Support Programme and the Kaura Agricultural Development Agenda (KADAGE).
According to the governor, the initiative is also aimed at reducing production costs, improving food security and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change on farming communities across the state.
Governor Idris described agriculture as the backbone of Kebbi State’s economy, noting that more than 80 per cent of the population depends on farming for its livelihood.
He observed that unpredictable rainfall, prolonged dry spells, flooding and increased pest infestations continue to threaten agricultural productivity, farmers’ incomes and food security.
The governor disclosed that 6,000 metric tonnes of NPK fertiliser would be distributed through the state’s 3,743 polling units to ensure the inputs reach genuine farmers directly, eliminating the activities of middlemen.
