Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has inaugurated a committee on the International Road assessment program, IRAP towards achieving the United Nations Global Road Safety Performance target for 2030.

At the inauguration in Abuja, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed said the committee whose members cut across stakeholders in the transport sector including government officials would use methodology of International Road Programme to ensure that all roads in Nigeria achieve Technical Standard for all road users.

According to the FRSC Corps Marshal, the aim is to enable the country meet the United Nations Global Road Safety Performance target 3 and 4 by the year 2030.

He tasked the committee to come up with implementable ideas towards achieving the United Nations goal.

“Nigeria is the first African country to be certified with International Road Assessment Program which should be a better platform for safer roads and reduce road crashes in the country.”

“One message at the back of the minds of the committee is that Nigerian Roads Must move to 3 star rating.”

Dr Remi Adewumi from the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology said the task of making the road safe for all categories of road users must be achieved.

Dr Adewumi promised to work with the FRSC towards achieving set target within the stipulated time frame.
