Persons living with disabilities in Kebbi State have voiced their dissatisfaction with the recent appointments to the State Disability Commission, citing marginalization of several disability groups.

The concerns were detailed in a statement from the Association’s executives, shared with Newsmen.

The Association highlighted that the recent appointment of five Special Senior Assistants (SSAs) included no representatives from the Deaf community, those affected by leprosy, individuals with albinism, or the blind.

All appointed SSAs were from the physically challenged cluster.

Similarly, the newly appointed governing board members of the commission are exclusively from the physically challenged group, with no representation for the Deaf, those affected by leprosy, individuals with albinism, or the blind.

The Association argues that this lack of representation violates the Disability Commission Act, which mandates fair representation for all disability clusters.

They are calling for equitable representation and opportunities within the Kebbi State Disability Commission.

The Association also appeals to the Honourable Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly to take immediate action to rectify this issue, addressing the injustice and ensuring that appointments are made in a fair and inclusive manner.
