Kaduna State Government and UNICEF have signed an agreement for a collaboration to reintegrate over Two Hundred Thousand out-of-school children in the State.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, noted that the initiative was aimed at enhancing access to education and improving learning facilities in the State.
She disclosed that over one point two million school pupils are expected to benefit from the project, while providing them with conducive learning environment.
The Deputy Governor stressed that the initiative would also boost school enrollment drive, participation, and completion rates.
Dr Balarabe added that safe and secure learning environments were critical for children’s well-being and academic performance.
She acknowledged the support of international partners, including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), among others.
Also speaking, UNICEF’s Country Representative, Cristian Munduate commended the state government’s efforts in addressing literacy and numeracy challenges.
She described the recent launch of the Kaduna Literacy and Numeracy Accelerator (KALINA) programme as a step in the right direction.
