Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has categorically denied reports in some sections of the media suggesting that inmates in at its custodial centres are not properly catered for.

In a media statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Corrections Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa, described the reports as unfortunate and “intended to tarnish the good reputation of the command.

The Command assured the public that inmates welfare is a top priority, and that they are properly taken care of despite the current economic situation.

“The Federal Government’s recent upward review of the feeding rate for inmates has improved their wellbeing.”

“The Nigerian Correctional Service is not only ensuring that inmates are properly catered for but also empowering them with educational and vocational skills training for their smooth reintegration into society.”

The Command urged the public to disregard the reports, which are not true and targeted towards misinforming innocent members of the public.

The Command assured the public of its resolve to protect and promote the human rights of inmates.
