Kaduna Govt Vows to Tackle Erosion, Flooding Statewide

The Kaduna State Government says it will do everything possible to curb erosion and flooding across the State.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Sani Liman Kila gave the assurance, when he led government officials to Sabon Gari and Zaria Local Government Areas to sympathize victims of recent flooding in the two areas.

Malam Sani Liman Kila who was at Chikaji ward in Sabon Gari LGA explained that the visit was aimed at having a first hand information on the level of damages caused by the flooding, and to assess and provide immediate assistance to victims of the disaster.

He pointed out that the State Government would put in short, medium and long term solutions to prevent the occurrence of flooding across the State.

The Chief of Staff appealed to residents of the State to avoid erecting structures on waterways, expand their drainages and obtain building permits from relevant authorities before erecting structures.

In their separate remarks, the district heads of Chikaji and Dogarawa communities, Malam Auwal Sani Danbaba and Malam Ahmed Hussaini Tsoho, commended the Chief of Staff and his entourage for the visit, and solicited for the construction of more drainages, while pledging to sensitize their subjects against erecting structures on the waterways.

At Zaria LGA, the Chief of Staff was at Sabuwar Anguwar Magume, where he decried the illegal excavation of sand by some members of the community, which according to him, exposes the community to erosion.

While assuring the commitment of the State Government to put in more effort and resources in addressing the matter, Malam Sani Kila urged residents of the community to complement government effort to put a stop to the menace.

In a remark, the Vice Chairman of Zaria LGA, Idris Yusuf Idris said the council would collaborate with the vigilante service to stop the illegal excavation of sand to avoid the complete submerge of the community by flood disaster.

The Chief of Staff was accompanied on the visit by the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Permanent Secretary in State Ministry of Environment and other senior government officials.
