Zamfara Government has commenced free distribution of 6,200 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas in the State.
Governor Dauda Lawal had recently inaugurated the distribution of 135 trucks of fertilizer across the State.
Speaking at the distribution exercise in Gummi, Anka and Bukkuyum towns, the Special Adviser to the governor on Community Engagement, Mustapha Gado-Anka, said the gesture was part of the State government’s policy to enhance farming production.
Mr Gado-Anka explained that, the initiative was part of Governor Dauda Lawal administration’s policies to enhance agricultural production as well as boost food security in the state.
He said the State government decided to give the fertilizer free to the farmers considering the current economic hardship in the country, called on the farmers to use the fertilizer judiciously.
This allocation is for the rainy season, in the next three months, another allocation of free fertilizer would be given to the farmers for the dry season.
The Emir of Anka and Chairman, Zamfara Council of Chiefs, Attahiru Ahmed, represented by the District Head of Yarimawa, Sani Sulaiman, described the gesture as a welcome development.
He said the government’s intervention in agriculture would enhance food production in the State.
In their separate remarks, the Sole Administrators of Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas, Bashar Musa, Nasiru Muhammad and Aminu Nuhu, respectively, commended the governor for the gesture.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, politicians, heads of security agencies, women and youths groups from the areas.
