Senate has been urged to as a matter of urgency reconvene an emergency sitting to screen and confirm the newly appointed Chairman of the National Hajj Commission NAHCON to allow the commission kick start the implementation of the 2025 Hajj calendar.
The Chairman Independent Hajj Reporters Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad made the appeal during the 2024 lecture and award presentation organized by the body in Abuja.
The 2024 lecture titled effective time management during pre-Hajj preparations was part of measures to remind the NAHCON from eating away more valuable time from the 2025 Hajj calendar.
Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad explained that according to the Saudi Arabian 2025 Hajj calendar processing and issuance of Visa will commence in the next 134 days while first set of intending Pilgrims are expected to arrive Saudi Arabia on the 29th of April 2025.
He, however, advocated the review of the Hajj administration nationwide through legal and policy overhaul to ensure honest, competent and experienced people superintend Hajj and Ummah affairs in Nigeria.
In a message, Governor Umar Namadi, of Jigawa State lauded the contributions of the Independent Hajj Reporters IHR in identifying some lapses realized from Hajj exercises and proper solutions to ensure NAHCON and States Pilgrims Welfare Boards perform excellently in their future operations.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government Malam Bala Ibrahim, Governor Namadi, expressed satisfaction with the report of this year’s Hajj exercise from Jigawa State assuring that his administration will partner Independent Hajj Reporters in promoting transparency and accountability on Hajj operations in Nigeria.
In a message, Governor Bala Muhammad of Bauchi State, who described the Hajj exercise as an important pillar of Islam, stressed the need for everyone to work together to provide a conducive atmosphere that will help Nigerian pilgrims perform a hitch-free exercise.
Stakeholders in the programme includes administrators from the States Pilgrims welfare Boards, representatives of State Governors, officials from the travelling agencies, Ulamas and leadership and members of the Independent Hajj Reporters IHR.
