Communal Clash Claims 2,  Injures Others in Lafiagi Emirate Land Dispute

At least two people are reportedly being killed, and others sustained various degrees of injury following a land dispute between the Ndeji and Lema communities in Lafiagi, Kwara State.

Eyewitnesses account said the crisis began when the Chief Imam of Ndeji was attacked while returning from his farm, causing his hands to swell.

The incident sparked outrage among the youths of Ndeji, who sought reprisal without arms.

However, the situation took a deadly turn when a fight broke out, and the Lema community opened fire on the Ndeji youths, resulting in two deaths and seven severe injuries among the Ndeji, while only two people from Lema sustained injuries.

It was learnt that the cause of the crisis is a decades-long land dispute, which has been undergoing reconciliation efforts by the past and present Emir of Lafiagi.

Confirming the incident the Commissioner of Police Kwara state command ,Mr Victor Olaiya said the police had arrested two suspects in connection to the clash.

He said investigation had commenced to unraveled the cause of the crisis.END
